30777 Telegraph Rd, Franklin, MI 48025
Note: This event takes place in lieu of a February Pack Meeting.
We plan on a live stream for the event, along with exciting interviews and design inspiration from the scouts. A huge thank you to Mike Eberhardt! This will allow our friends and family to join in the excitement by watching their favorite scout race! It also ensures all families near and far are able to participate in the fun, whether remotely or in person. More details and information will be posted when available.
For privacy, the Thiel's address will be provided in an email to the Pack. Thank you to the Thiel family for hosting!
We will have band saws available to transform your scout’s pinewood block into their rough-cut preferred design. The remaining sanding, painting, and additional designing will need to be done individually between this night and the derby. We will have some handouts available for standard designs that you can use as a template. To maintain even crowds, please try to generally stick to the timing below, broken down by den. If you cant make those slots, come when you are available.
Lions – 4:30
Tigers – 4:45
Wolves – 5:15
Bears – 5:30
Webelos – 5:45
AOL – 6:15
Completed cars are dropped off, leaders inspect them to ensure rules are being followed, and the Pack impounds them until race day.
We will have tools and spare parts on hand for last minute weight adjustments. Once the cars are checked in, no further modifications are permitted.
Scouts, please wear your Class A Uniforms.
Note the location change! The event will NOT take place at the Franklin Church. Additionally, please bring folding/camp chairs to sit on!
Races will occur according to the following schedule.
9:00 am Pack Arrival, Anthem, Interviews
9:30 am Lions
9:45 am Tigers
10:10 am Wolves
10:30 am Bears
10:45 am Webelos
11:15 am AOL
11:30 am Pack Finals
12:00 pm Open Bracket
12:30 pm Trophy Ceremonies
The 1st and 2nd place racers from each den will return for the pack finals (cars remain on site).
This year we will be doing the Welcome, and National Anthem once in the morning then moving through the dens continuously throughout the AM. We encourage everyone to show for the 9AM introductions, but it also just fine to show up just for your Den start times noted below.
There is no necessity to ‘Check-In” once you arrive at the Church, as the check-in/Sign in takes place on Friday ….Hence, if a scout is not present at the start time of their race their car will run still be raced.
Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each den race.
Trophies will also be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place racers in the pack finals.
I know we have some future engineers, designers, and car enthusiasts in the pack! Therefore we will have design awards for the following categories.
Best Overall Design
Fast and Furious
Most Unique
Best paint job
Most Intimidating
A panel of judges will vote after all the cars have been impounded and before the first race!
This year we will be doing an “Open Bracket” for siblings, parents, etc. for anyone who wants to enter a car. The only difference in rules from the standard den racing is that wheel modifications will be allowed in the open bracket. The rest of the rules still apply for dimensions, and max weight.
New in 2025! In previous years, we just posted the generic “Council Rules”. This year, we're going to use the abbreviated rules in the one-page sheet attached which are much simpler to read through and follow.
Cars that do not meet the stated rules will be automatically entered into the “Open” racing category.
